Dibanisa Gansbaai is more than a football school; it is development through football, which is instrumental in building and maintaining developing communities.
Objectives
The three main communities of Masakhane, Blompark and Gansbaai are currently divided. The Dibanisa development project will reduce anxieties for children and parents through development of a neutral football field in the middle of the three neighboring areas, making it possible for them to reach out to each other in a sport setting. The children’s social skills and games knowledge will be developed in a classroom environment that has their best interests at heart, and assists them in setting goals in life.
Dibanisa’s long-term goal is to build an artificial mini football pitch (40m x 20m), educational room and upgrade the surrounding area promoting long-term social and educational development, and imparting a sense of ownership and achievement for the communities involved.
The Grootbos Foundation, with the support of Coaches Across Continents, are managing the community development programme and plan to:
- Implement a three-year business plan with operations and maintenance.
- Develop and implement a measurement system, which keeps track of development for the community, allows the development to continue and keeps corporate investors continually informed and involved.
- Integrate local tourism and environmental partners to enhance the programme.
Project specifics
Dibanisa is more than a football ground. Children are educated and integrated through extracurricular activities thereby expanding their world of development.
Every term 20 children – eight to 13 years of age – participate in the Dibanisa programme, which translates to 80 children annually developing their social and sport skills.
